Recently, our team at Very Law had the opportunity to participate in an event for the benefit of our Pittsburgh community. On Saturday, September 21, 2024, we were one of the proud sponsors of the Children’s Gala 2024: Under Construction, to raise money for a new library.

The event, which was presented by Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Wexford at Northland Public Library, provided a special evening full of fun for families with young children. As our law firm practices family law, we were delighted to find another way to commit to caring for the children in our community and give back where it counts.

The Children’s Gala Experience

Learning to read at an early age is a gift, and we could not possibly think of a better way to support that than by joining in this special fundraising gala that raised money for the library. At the Children’s Gala, we witnessed the joy of children as they enjoyed the many featured activities.

The main stage featured a magic show with magician Steve Haberman who delighted the children with his magic, humor, and illusions. At the gala, strolling book characters brought childrens’ favorite books to life with appearances by Curious George, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Northland’s own famed character, Norbert the Owl. In addition to a variety of games, story time, balloon artists, face painting, and a scavenger hunt, the gala also provided kid-friendly food and live music that brought the families of our local area together.

Raffles allowed for additional fundraising to fuel a love of reading for the kids that will last them a lifetime. Basket raffles awarded prizes to kids and adults. The event also included more ways to win with a 50/50 raffle and an “Unlock the Title” book pull for children, allowing participants to purchase a wrapped children’s book for $10 with a chance to win a gift card hidden within certain books. Making things more interesting, the book pull raffle featured clues on the outside of the book, encouraging parents and kids to read the clues together to guess what was tucked inside the pages.

Very Law is Committed to the Families We Serve in the Community

Overall, the Children’s Gala was a success as it raised money for a cause we wholeheartedly believe in - helping children have a happy and full childhood while giving them the tools they need to succeed. Reading is an integral life skill that can help children have the brightest future possible.

It was an honor to be among the sponsors for this event but the greatest honor was watching how much fun every child had. Our sponsorship cements our commitment to giving back to our Pittsburgh community in any way we can. As attorneys who often witness people in their deepest struggles, we advocate for our clients and Pittsburgh at large to make it an even better place to live by helping people when they need it most.
