At Very Law, we are pleased to share that our lawyer, Nick DiNardo, has been appointed as the Vice Chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA) committee. In this role, DiNardo will work to strengthen the committee's presence and make it more active within the legal community. He will be responsible for planning and coordinating continuing legal education (CLE) sessions to support attorneys handling appeals.
The ACBA serves as a vital network for lawyers across Allegheny County, fostering professional development and supporting the local legal community. Through various specialized committees, the ACBA offers lawyers valuable opportunities for continuing legal education (CLE), networking opportunities, and collaboration within their practice areas.
The CLE classes also help attorneys get credits for courses that they are interested in and that align with their interests and practice areas.
One of these committees is the Appellate Practice Committee, which is a specialized group focused on issues related to cases that are appealed to a higher court after the initial judgment. In his new role, DiNardo aims to make the Appellate Practice Committee more active and increase the promotion of the CLE classes offered.
DiNardo plans to bring together attorneys interested in Appellate Law and provide them with valuable insights to improve their practice. Since most appeals are filed by the attorneys who handled the case at the trial level, this initiative will give them a chance to learn about aspects they may have overlooked or important considerations they might not have thought about when handling appeals.
In this role, DiNardo will organize the CLE sessions covering these crucial topics. He hopes this effort will benefit appellate attorneys and raise awareness within the Civil Litigation Committee about key issues when filing appeals.
DiNardo feels that appellate practice has become a lost art, especially in civil litigation. He hopes to change this by offering CLE sessions and giving attorneys more exposure to appellate law, helping them build a stronger understanding of the field.
He’s also focused on helping attorneys, particularly trial lawyers, gain more experience in handling appeals. Many trial attorneys may not have the expertise or complete understanding of what appellate judges look for or where to focus their attention. By offering practical resources and insights, DiNardo aims to fill that gap and improve how appeals are handled.
DiNardo has experience working at all three levels of the judiciary. Before joining Very Law, he worked at the highest court in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court, where he served as a Judicial Law Clerk.
Prior to that, DiNardo gained valuable experience at the Superior Court, where he worked for three years. The Superior Court of Pennsylvania is one of two Pennsylvania intermediate appellate courts. He also served at the Washington County Court of Common Pleas, further enriching his legal background.
A native of Latrobe, DiNardo has contributed to decisions on hundreds of cases across diverse practice areas throughout his career. An alumnus of Pennsylvania State University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, he is deeply committed to supporting his community. He is always ready to assist community members in need.
