Very Law is proud to share our experience of attending the Cultivating Resilience and Motivation event hosted by Corene Summers, the Founder of the “Cultivate Limitless Culture” corporate wellness program. Summers, a well-known corporate wellness coach, brought her expertise to help attendees develop the skills to manage workplace stress, maximize productivity, and build team resilience.

Stress is a natural and automatic response to a perceived threat, according to Corene. Everyone experiences stress on some level. While we can’t always avoid stress, we can learn how to manage it. If stress is not managed properly, it can become a chronic issue, leading to burnout, reduced productivity, and lack of motivation at work.

A key takeaway by the Very Law team from the event was that building resilience is a key component of managing stress. Resilience is the ability to recover and adapt when faced with challenges. It involves drawing on inner strength to respond positively to workplace pressures, changes, and difficult circumstances.

Developing the right mindset and skills can help individuals and teams handle challenges, prevent burnout, and create a more supportive work environment.

Personal, professional, and relational resilience each play a crucial role in overcoming challenges in different areas of life. Corene emphasized that anyone can develop resilience and strengthen their ability to navigate adversity - and bounce-back to reach more of their potential and desired outcomes in life!

The process of building resilience starts by taking responsibility for your life by accepting that where you are and where you're going is up to you. An individual who has a growth mindset, instead of a fixed mindset, tends to view failure as an opportunity to grow and they feel empowered that they can learn to overcome challenges with more ease and work hard to do anything they want.

Corene spoke about how to reframe setbacks. The thoughts we have are like seeds; what we plant today is what will grow in our future. For more positive thoughts, we need to talk to ourselves using positive affirmations. Replacing negative ways of thinking through challenges with affirmations like “I have everything I need to get through this” or “I am resilient, resourceful and relentless” are simple shifts with a powerful impact. By prioritizing grace and compassion and focusing on body-centered practices like meditation and breathing exercises, we can shift our mindset from thought-focused to more grounded positive thinking.

We are stronger the more circles of community support we have. This empowers us by providing diverse connections, emotional stability, and a deep sense of community. Additionally, community support also enables us to shift our perspective to a more positive outlook.
